Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Austin, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Schedule: Rotating weekends (4 days per 4-week schedule)
Call Requirements: No call

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
• Number of Beds: 14
• Staffing: 48 direct reports
• Typical Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:1 and 1:2 depending on patient acuity
• Day Shift Staffing: 1 Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC), 5-9 RNs depending on acuity
• Night Shift Staffing: 1 CNC, 5-9 RNs depending on acuity
• Typical Procedures:

  • CABG/Valve open heart surgeries (13-15 per week)
  • ECMO cannulation and management (VA and VV)
  • IABP and Impella management
  • Dialysis/CRRT
• Devices Commonly Used:

  • ECMO
  • RVAD/LVAD
  • Impella
  • IABP
  • CRRT/Dialysis
• Typical Device Load: 2-3 devices on the floor at any time

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
• Minimum 1 year of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Previous cardiac nursing experience, including open heart recovery
• Device experience with ECMO, RVAD/LVAD, Impella, IABP, and CRRT/Dialysis
