Pediatric Acute RN Position - Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Department: Pediatric Acute (shares unit with Pediatric Hematology/Oncology)
- Total Beds: 22 beds for Pediatric Acute, 10 beds for Pediatric Hem/Onc; ability to expand/swing beds depending on census
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Patient Types: Medical/surgical pediatric patients including hyperbilirubinemia, neurological conditions, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, COVID, orthopedic cases
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
Staffing and Support
- Charge Nurse: Present 24/7, takes patient assignments
- Pediatric Crisis RN: Available 24/7
- Administrative Supervisor: Support available 24/7
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs): Ratio approximately 1:8-10
Physician Coverage
- Hospitalist coverage until approximately midnight
- 24/7 resident coverage
Equipment and Monitoring
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Heated high flow and BiPAP with specific parameters; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- Telemetry: Pediatric monitor tech monitors patients remotely and contacts caregivers if concerns arise; RNs do not read their own strips
Scheduling
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (07:00-19:30 or 19:00-07:30)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Day shift weekends are Saturday/Sunday; Night shift weekends are Friday/Saturday)
- Holiday Requirement: Holidays required unless otherwise approved during interview
- Call/Standby: Not mandatory at this time
- Floating: RNs may float within the children’s hospital to other pediatric units or mom/baby units (no ICU or chemo patients unless experienced)
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts, can be extended with management approval
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
Dress Code
- Scrub tops: Any pediatric-appropriate color or pattern, must not be revealing
- Undershirts: Solid color long sleeve or scrub jacket allowed if cold
- Scrub pants: Solid color, must not be revealing
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Drug-free campus: Negative drug screen required for all panels
- OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or payback required
