Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Aurora, Colorado
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Location: Aurora, Colorado
- Facility Type: Level 1 Trauma Center, Operating Room (41 ORs)
- Shift: Days, all days of the week; occasional float to 0845 and 1045 starts
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Weekend Requirements: Yes, per unit needs
- On-Call Requirements: Yes, approximately 6 shifts per 8-week schedule period
- Floating: Yes, within scope to other University of Colorado Hospital ORs
Experience & Qualifications
- Required Experience: Minimum 3 years of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery experience in OR (Circulator/Scrub or both)
- Trauma Experience: Level 1 or 2 trauma experience required
- Epic Experience: Required
- First-Timers: Not accepted
- Certifications Required:
- AHA BLS
- Colorado OR Compact RN License
- Patient Ratio: 1:1
- Types of Cases: General, GU/GYN, Neuro, ENT, Plastic Surgery
Time Off Restrictions
- Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days allowed
- No RTO allowed during these periods:
- August 27 - September 10, 2025
- October 22 - November 3, 2025
- November 24 - December 1, 2025
- December 21 - January 3, 2026
- Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Identification: I9 or attestation, valid Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front/back)
- Background Checks: 7-year background check including SSN trace, CBI search, child abuse/neglect search (for pediatrics), education verification, sex offender search, sanctions list, and others as applicable
- Education Verification: 3rd party verification of highest level of education; transcripts/diplomas acceptable if needed
- Licensure Verification: State license verification within 60 days of start; NURSYS verification required
- References: Two references from the last two years, including one from the last year, from Charge RN, Manager, Supervisor, or above
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 years of employment; gaps over 30 days must be explained
- Skills Checklist: Required annually
- Colorado CAPS Check: Required within 60 days of start
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS): AHA or RQI accepted
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): May be required depending on unit
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Required for certain units (not specified here)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): May be required depending on unit
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required for ER (if applicable)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): Required for Labor & Delivery (if applicable)
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required within 1 year and updated annually
- Competency Exams: Core Parts I, II, III, Dysrhythmia/EKG, OSHA mandatory exams required annually with minimum scores
- Color Blind Testing: Ishihara exam required prior to start (online testing not accepted for new candidates)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI): Required for psychiatric positions (not applicable here)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
- Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually (specific mask types listed)
- Immunizations/Vaccinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual updates for positives
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
- Drug Testing: Required within 30 days of start and updated annually; specific drug panel required
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Proof of vaccination or signed declination required (AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna accepted)
This position is suited for experienced OR RNs with cardio-thoracic surgery and trauma experience, comfortable with a fast-paced Level 1 trauma center environment, and able to meet strict certification and compliance requirements.
