Unit Information

• Unit: PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
• Number of Beds: 9
• Patient Ratios:

  • PICU: 1 RN to 1-2 patients
  • Stepdown Unit: 1 RN to 2-3 patients
• Floating Policy: May float to Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• Scheduling Requirements:

  • 6-week schedule cycle
  • Must work 3 weekends within the 6 weeks
  • Self-scheduling available
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Equipment: Alaris pumps
• Unit Staffing: Unit secretaries and tech availability; Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) works 9am-9pm; tech shared with PICU

Required Qualifications

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years PICU experience
• Certifications: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
• Skills/Procedures:

  • IV starts
  • Catheter insertions
  • Holding for lumbar punctures (LPs)
  • Central line dressing changes
  • Hemodynamic monitoring
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Tube feeding and placement
  • Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring
  • Ventilator management

Dress Code

• Navy blue or white scrubs
• Options: All navy, all white, or navy pants with white tops
