Unit Information

• Unit: 6th Floor, Post-Op Med/Surg
• Number of Beds: 34
• Patient Ratios: 6:1
• Staffing Support:

  • Tech support available on day and night shifts
  • Unit secretary available 7 AM to 7 PM
• Equipment Used:

  • IV Pumps
  • Telemetry
  • Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs)
  • Continuous Pulse Oximetry Machines
  • Feeding Pumps
  • Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA)
  • EKG Machines
  • Bladder Scanner
  • iMobile Communication Technology
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling:

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
  • 2 weekends (4 shifts) per 4-week schedule
• Floating Policy: Contract staff float first; rotation applies when multiple contract staff are scheduled

  • Bedside shift reports
  • Building personal connections with patients and families
  • Inclusion of patients/families in care planning

Hospital Certifications

• Comprehensive Stroke Center
• ACS Verified Level II Trauma Center
• Certified Chest Pain Center

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in Tennessee
• BLS certification
• Med/Surg experience with skills in:

  • Prioritizing care and multitasking
  • Starting IVs
  • Basic wound care
  • Maintenance of surgical drains, nasogastric tubes, and chest tubes

Dress Code

• Navy scrubs (tops and bottoms)

This position offers the opportunity to work in a well-equipped Med/Surg unit with supportive staffing and a focus on patient-centered care in a certified trauma and stroke center. The schedule provides a consistent 3 twelve-hour shifts per week with weekend rotations.
