Registered Nurse - Neuro Stepdown Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Stepdown Neuro at a major hospital campus
  • Shift: Night shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments
    • Minimum 18 months recent Neuro Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted)
    • PCU/Progressive Care experience preferred but not required
  • Licensing:
    • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand
  • Certifications Required:
    • AHA BLS & ACLS
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Work Requirements:
    • Must work at least every other holiday
    • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation

Orientation & Testing

  • ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate testing will be completed onsite during orientation; passing scores are mandatory
  • Pass/fail testing applies to all bedside RNs except OR nurses
  • Orientation includes completion of online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
  • Modules cannot be skipped and must be completed fully before clearance to start

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
  • Background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification)
    • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results updated annually
  • Fingerprints must be done under code 4723.09 (Nursing)
  • Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process
  • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if prints are completed prior to start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing after 4/11/2025)
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers; boosters required if titers negative/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal)
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted) during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)

Documentation & Verification

  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar specialty
  • Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
  • State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
  • Annual competency exams and skills checklists required
  • Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing required (except OR nurses)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all onboarding modules prior to clearance to start; modules typically take multiple days
  • Candidates returning to the facility with less than a 6-month gap may have some requirements waived (e.g., orientation, pass/fail testing)
  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times on assignment
  • Facility uses Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Stepdown RNs with required certifications and licensure, ready to work night shifts in a high-acuity progressive care environment.
