Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Nurse Navigator, Radiation Medicine

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Start Date & Schedule

  • Must Start On: December 15
  • Shifts: Rotating between 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM and 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Licensure & Experience Requirements

  • Must have a District of Columbia RN license in hand to submit
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Preferably completed at least 1 travel assignment (or 1 month per diem)
  • Oncology experience is a plus
  • Nurse Navigator or Nurse Coordinator experience preferred

Role Overview

  • Provide care and support to cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy
  • Responsibilities include patient education, skincare/wound care, assessment of radiation toxicity, and addressing social needs
  • Monitor and assess patients for concerning signs or symptoms and coordinate with physicians, residents, or emergency services as needed
  • Office duties include chart preparation, disability forms, pharmacy calls, and telephone triage
  • Primary patient population: Cancer patients receiving radiation treatment

Clinical Skills Required

  • Care and management of ports, Central Line/Implanted Line Care
  • Starting IVs (adults)
  • Management of Acute Tumor Lysis Syndrome (ATLS), Anaphylaxis, Extravasation injury, Hemorrhage, Sepsis, Spinal Cord Compression
  • Neutropenic precautions
  • Tracheostomy care/management
  • External Radiation therapy (Teletherapy) and radiation safety precautions
  • Wound care
  • Management of altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, neuropathy

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Must be AHA or ARC certified
  • Flu vaccine is required for all employees at this facility

Documentation & Charting

  • Electronic Health Record system: Cerner

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, including multi-state and federal searches
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Flu vaccine (or approved exemption)
    • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended (declination requires mask use)
    • Tdap vaccine preferred within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual updates if applicable
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) documentation or titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Varicella documentation or titer
  • EKG competency exam and other competency exams as required by specialty/unit
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience in the last 3 years
