Pediatric Emergency RN - Travel Assignment
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Facility Type: Pediatric Children's Hospital (Children’s Emergency Unit)
Employment Type: Travel Nurse
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Work Environment
- Unit: Children’s Emergency Department (36 beds + 2 trauma rooms)
- Patient Ratio: 3:1
- Shift Options:
- 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- 1:00 PM – 1:30 AM
- 3:00 PM – 3:30 AM
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
- Weekend Schedule: Rotating weekends
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
- Floating: Required; may float to ED holds or inpatient units as needed
- Unit Staffing: Unit clerk, pharmacist, techs, midlevel providers, physicians
- Documentation System: Meditech
- Equipment: Standard pediatric ER equipment
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Active Texas RN License (temporary licenses not accepted)
- Minimum 2+ years of Emergency Department experience
- Pediatric Emergency Department experience strongly preferred
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Experience working in a pediatric environment
- Candidates with mixed adult and pediatric ER experience are encouraged to apply
Preferred Skills
- Leadership experience (Charge Nurse or Nursing Educator roles)
- Skilled in pediatric patient care and interventions
- Experience with Meditech electronic documentation system
Procedures Performed on Unit
- IV insertions
- In-and-out catheterizations
- Medication reconciliation
Dress Code & Appearance Standards
- Scrubs: Navy color for RNs; undershirts and jackets must be white, navy, or black
- No hooded jackets or sweaters allowed
- Nails: No artificial nails or nail polish
- Hair: Must be off shoulders and natural color
- Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; uncovered body art addressed individually
- Piercings: Only ear piercings allowed; no visible piercings elsewhere
Additional Information
- The hospital is a new facility with a strong culture of teamwork
- Fast-paced environment, seeing approximately 200-250 patients daily during peak season
- Emphasis on high-quality care and excellence in service
- Travelers must be prepared to float according to hospital policy
