Job Opportunity: SNF RN (3rd Floor) - Wheeling, West Virginia

Position Details

  • Specialty: Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • Scheduling: No self-scheduling; schedules based on facility needs; no guaranteed block scheduling
  • Floating: Travelers may float before core staff as needed

Facility & Patient Information

  • Facility Type: Skilled nursing facility with short-term patients only (no long-term)
  • Number of Beds: 24 private rooms
  • Patient Types / Common Diagnoses:
    • Sepsis
    • Femur fractures
    • NSTEMI (Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction)
    • Chronic Kidney Failure (CKF)
    • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
    • Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)
  • Patient Care Focus: Majority receiving IV antibiotics or therapy to regain strength for discharge home

Staffing Ratios

  • RN/LPN: 2 nurses total (1 nurse per 12 patients)
  • CNAs: 2 CNAs total (1 CNA per 12 patients)

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • CPR certification must be current prior to first day
  • Candidate must have an unexpired driver’s license (within 50-mile radius rule)
  • Licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Medication administration
  • Wound care
  • Foley catheter and other catheter care
  • PEG tube feedings
  • Ostomy care
  • Tracheostomy care
  • IV care including IV antibiotics, blood, IV fluids
  • Management of PICC lines, mediports, central lines

Equipment & Technology

  • EMR system: Point Click Care
  • No telemetry monitors on unit; RNs do not read cardiac strips
  • Pharmacist on site; medications supplied from nearby hospital
  • Oxygen therapy equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow) not available on unit
  • COVID precautions: No separate COVID unit; private rooms with enhanced droplet precautions; N95 masks used; COVID vaccine not required

  • Medical Records staff

Additional Information

  • Orientation: 2 shifts required
  • Dress Code:
    • RNs and LPNs wear navy blue scrubs
    • CNAs wear gray scrub pants with any print top
  • Physician availability: On-call 24/7
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Always an RN present on the unit
  • Charge nurse and DON present on site

This position is ideal for RNs experienced in short-term skilled nursing care, IV therapy, and managing complex patients requiring multiple lines and wound care in a supportive interdisciplinary environment.
