Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)
  • Shift: 5x8 hour shifts, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Call Requirements: One 12-hour shift per month on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), either 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM. No weekday call.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days. No RTO on holidays, the day before or after holidays, or weekends.
  • Floating: Mandatory float facility; all clinicians must float within their scope as needed.
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in the Operating Room
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Strong scrub and circulate skills
  • Experience in Orthopedics, Orthopedic Trauma, Vascular, Urology, General Surgery

Preferred Experience:

  • Neurosurgery (cranial and spine)
  • Open Heart/Thoracic
  • Ophthalmology
  • ENT
  • Bariatric
  • Gynecology

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Preferred/Additional Certifications (depending on unit):

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) for ER RN
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) for L&D, NICU
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) for Oncology
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) for L&D
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for certain specialties including ICU, ER, L&D, Med Surg, NICU, etc.)

Licensing & Location

  • Must have an active RN license for Illinois (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Locals accepted and preferred; must live within 75 miles of the facility

Facility Highlights

  • Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue (provided)
  • Charting system: Cerner

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)

Competency Exams (Required for starts on/after specified dates)

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Color Blind Testing
  • General Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for EKG Techs and preferred for ER RNs)

Additional Notes

  • Must complete facility-specific forms and rules of behavior prior to start
  • References: 2 within 2 years preferred but not required to start
  • Complete application and skills checklist required annually
