Job Opportunity: Radiation Oncology RN - Outpatient
Location: Charleston, South Carolina

Position Details
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Weekend Requirement: No
- On-call Requirement: No
- Floating: Yes, may float between three clinics within the system, primarily at one main facility
- Experience Required: 2-3 years
- Required Experience: Epic electronic health record system
- Preferred Experience: Oncology and outpatient clinic experience
- First-time Travelers: Considered
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-state Compact RN license required
- Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Preferred Certifications: Chemotherapy certification or similar
- Radiation Badge: Required; agency must provide radiation badge
Important Notes
- Hurricane Season: From June through November, all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams. Peak months are August and September. Confirm availability before accepting assignments during this period.
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks.
- Local Radius: 60 miles; local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis.
Required Documentation & Compliance
Licensure & Verification
- South Carolina RN license or multi-state compact license with primary source verification
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Radiation badge required for Radiation Oncology and other specified Radiology/Cardiology roles
- Work history verification for last 3 clinical employers
Certifications
- BLS: AHA or ARC certification required for all clinical staff
- ACLS: Required for certain units; check specific unit requirements
- Chemotherapy Certification: Required for Oncology Hospital Unit (specific to this role)
- Other certifications (PALS, TNCC, NIH Stroke, etc.) as applicable based on unit and specialty
Health & Safety
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination series)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccination series)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season or medical/religious exemption
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exam required; pediatric OR candidates may have specific requirements
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, business casual attire) required before start
- Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system
- Physical assessment form required for sterile processing techs (not applicable for this RN role)
Additional Notes
- Agency responsible for providing radiation badge and tracking
- Candidates cannot start without radiation badge; badge processing may take 5-7 days
- Facility may require education verification; diploma or transcripts may be accepted as placeholders
- Background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, and others required within 1 year of start
- Employment application must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
This position is ideal for experienced Radiation Oncology RNs with outpatient and oncology experience who hold the appropriate licensure and certifications, and who are comfortable with floating between clinics within the healthcare system.
