Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Specialty: Registered Nurse (OB, Mother/Baby, Labor & Delivery)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Start Date: Desired 12/29 or 01/12
• Shift Options: 36 or 48 hours available
• Call Requirement: None
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Unit: 15 bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms
• Floating:

  • Float within LDRP areas
  • Float as sitter in the house when needed
  • Float to a nearby hospital (27 miles away) for Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby as census allows
• No Return to Office (RTO) first 8 days of contract
• Holiday RTO: Only one holiday request allowed (one day or one evening/day after, not both)
• Patient Ratios: Follow AWHONN guidelines
• Responsibilities:

  • Antepartum, labor and delivery care
  • OR circulating and scrub nurse duties
  • Newborn nurse at delivery and couplet care
  • Lab draws and newborn hearing screens (training provided)
• Documentation System: EPIC

Required Certifications

• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• AWHONN Intermediate and/or NCC C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)

Preferred Certifications:

• AWHONN Advanced
• Scrub skills

Required Skills

• Circulate
• FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) Triage

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in OB, Mother/Baby, and Labor & Delivery nursing

Equipment & Training

• EPIC documentation system
• Training provided for newborn infant hearing screens (ALGO 5 Machine)
• Scrubs provided

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
• Michigan-specific Central Registry Clearance required for OB Mother-Baby units
• MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (not specifically required for this role unless specified)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Drug testing: 10 panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start
• Immunizations required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis)
  • Rubeola (Measles) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Mumps - 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Rubella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for candidates starting after 11/1

Additional Requirements

• Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps
• One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required
• Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam passed within 1 year prior to assignment start
• Competency exam in specialty passed within 1 year prior to assignment start

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required

Notes

• Floating to other units and facilities may be required based on census and need
• Holiday time off requests are limited and strictly regulated
• Fit testing and other facility-specific policies apply as per facility standards

This position is ideal for experienced OB/Labor & Delivery nurses comfortable with floating and working in a dynamic hospital environment following AWHONN staffing guidelines.
