Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Work Details

  • 36/36 or 36/48 schedule (use whichever is appropriate for the employment agreement)
  • Rotating weekends and rotating holidays
  • No call
  • Self-scheduling available
  • Hospital may cancel/call off one shift biweekly without financial penalty if census decreases
  • Additional shifts above work commitment are overtime and may be flexed as needed
  • Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
  • Accepts first-time travelers (no prior travel experience required)
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Traveler must live within 100 miles of the facility

Certifications Required

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (check unit description for requirement)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – check unit description
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – required for ER, can be pending at start but highly preferred
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – highly preferred for ER candidates
  • State License Primary Source Verification
  • NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required if licensed/certified in TN or working in TN
  • Annual Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite (previous fit tests from non-facility not accepted)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)

Orientation & Onboarding

  • General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs)
  • 16 hours of non-billable orientation required
  • Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of signed contract
  • Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Candidate must review and comply with facility-specific dress code, uniform guidelines, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement, influenza policy, and CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use

  • References: 2 accepted, 3 preferred
  • Skills checklist required
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
  • Competency exam required

This position offers a structured schedule with flexibility, requires standard nursing certifications and immunizations, and includes participation in clinical education. It is suitable for nurses with at least 1 year of experience and is open to first-time travel nurses.
