Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Rochester, New York

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (MedSurg/Cardiac Care)
  • Location: Rochester, New York
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Facility Type: Tertiary Care Hospital
  • Unit Details:
    • 26 beds specializing in post PCI, pacemakers, AICDs, post MI, and cardiac pharmacological interventions
    • Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:7
    • Total staffed beds in hospital: 528

Licensure & Experience Requirements

  • License: Must have New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in EPIC electronic health record system
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills including:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy: Peripheral line care/management
  • Respiratory care: Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions
  • Ability to manage MedSurg patient load with cardiac focus

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit description (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification from primary source (transcripts/diplomas if no verification on file)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific acceptable mask types)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (with additional requirements if positive)
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (not required annually)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge
  • Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Completion of facility-specific pre-employment compliance attestations and new hire forms
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates only
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • Annual skills checklist
  • Color blind testing (one-time)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required by profession

Notes

  • Locals are not accepted; candidate must be located more than 75 miles from the facility
  • Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
  • Charting system: Epic
