Description

Job Opportunity: Central Registry - Float Nurse

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Facility: Parkview Regional Medical Center (Parkview Health)
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • General Medical and Surgical units with a diverse patient population
  • Patient diagnoses include chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, IBD), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, c-diff), neurological issues (stroke, dementia, TBI), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse)
  • Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation)

Job Duties & Skills

  • Provide general medical-surgical nursing care
  • Perform assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication
  • Utilize Electronic Health Records (Epic) and equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps/tubes, chest tubes
  • Manage heparin and insulin drips, IV therapy
  • Use telemetry monitoring, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year Med Surg hospital experience required; 2 years preferred
  • Experience at a large hospital (600+ beds) preferred
  • Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20) required
  • BLS certification through American Heart Association required

Shift & Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts
  • Approximately 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
  • Patient ratios typically 1:5-6
  • Floating to other medical units as needed (no specialty units outside medical)

Orientation & Training

  • Jump Start orientation program: 1 day general hospital orientation + ~5 days nursing orientation
  • Includes Epic training

Additional Information

  • Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
  • Candidate must be able to float to areas of greatest need within medical units

This position is ideal for Med Surg RNs with solid hospital experience looking for a travel assignment in a large, diverse medical-surgical environment.
