Location: Westminster, Maryland

Job Description

  • Minimum 2 years of experience required in nursing specialty.
  • Pediatric Emergency Department (ED) experience is a must.
  • Must hold current BLS and PALS certifications.
  • Ability to function independently in a small pediatric unit where the nurse is often the sole caregiver.
  • When no pediatric patients are present, the nurse may be floated to Med/Surg, ED, or Family Birthplace units based on experience.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - verification required
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - verification required
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - verification required
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - verification required
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - verification required
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - verification required
  • NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) - time-sensitive, with limited attempts and remediation process
  • State RN License verification (Primary Source Verification required)
  • NURSYS Verification (for RNs)

Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Unit-Specific Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias or Prophecy only, with remediation if failed)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Education verification and accreditation confirmation required, especially if nursing education was completed outside Maryland.
  • Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 workplaces in last 7 years).
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years of start date required for travel assignments.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet essential job functions.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire updated annually.
  • Immunizations:
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella (boosters required if negative).
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if negative.
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant screen accepted as placeholder).
  • Respirator Fit Test (for new contracts) to be completed onsite; PAPR training provided if failed.

Facility-Specific Notes

  • The facility is a nicotine-free environment; candidates must review and sign the nicotine-free policy.
  • Floating policy applies; candidates must complete and sign related documentation.
  • Time and attendance policy for contracted staff must be acknowledged and signed.
  • EKG exam may be required onsite with strict pass/fail rules and remediation process.

  • Support is available from the ED and Family Birthplace units when needed.
