Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

• 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each
• Night shifts, Sunday through Saturday

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience (will consider first-time travelers)
• ASCP certification required
• BLS and ASCP-MLS certifications preferred

Certifications & Competencies

• ASCP required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) preferred
• Other certifications may be applicable depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP)
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
• Color Blind Testing required
• Competency Exams required as applicable, must score 80% or higher
• Age Specific Competency Exam required for all, including CNAs
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for most units (exclusions apply)

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification for highest level of education
• Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
• Two supervisory references required within 1 year of start
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of employment history

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex Allergy Questionnaire
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start (some exceptions apply)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination required for units working with children
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines, updated annually
• Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B immunization or positive titer required
• Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel depending on facility) within 30 days prior to start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• COVID-19 vaccination not required for this location, but documentation collected for tracking

Facility Specific Information

• Uniform: Navy blue scrubs; pink scrubs for trauma; pediatric staff may wear child-friendly tops with navy blue pants
• Dress code: Business casual for some departments; no jeans, open-toe shoes, sleeveless tops, or shorts in certain areas
• Passport-style photo with solid white/beige background required for badge

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
• Candidates must sign confidentiality and job description agreements prior to start.
• Some training test-out options available for Epic system based on prior experience.
