Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (Travel/Contract)
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5 days a week, 8-hour day shifts (no weekends)
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (will consider first-time travelers)
- Certifications Required:
- ASCP or ASCP-MLS
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Laboratory
- Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- Other certifications may be applicable depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM) – refer to job specifics
- Competency exams required as applicable by profession, including:
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing
- Age Specific Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (exclusions apply)
- Must score 80% or higher on competency exams
Compliance & Background Checks
- I9 or Attestation required
- Government Issued Photo ID required
- E-Verify or Attestation required
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification for highest level of education
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Felony history: Felonies within past 5 years are automatic decline; older felonies require review
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex Screen
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (exceptions apply)
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (declination accepted only for low/equivocal titer)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
- Negative drug screen (9-panel) within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- COVID vaccine not required for this location, but documentation collected for tracking
Facility Specific Information
- Uniform: Navy blue scrubs; pink scrubs for trauma; pediatric staff may wear child-friendly tops with navy blue pants
- Dress code: Business casual for some departments; no jeans, open-toe shoes, sleeveless tops, or shorts in certain areas
- Passport-style photo with solid white/beige background required for badge
- Confidentiality agreement and other facility-specific documents must be signed prior to start
- Security ID application must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract
References & Employment History
- Two supervisory references required within 1 year of start
- Employment application/resume must be completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of employment required (attestation accepted if necessary)
This position offers a structured day shift schedule with no weekends, suitable for candidates with at least 2 years of laboratory experience, including those new to travel assignments. Compliance with extensive background, health, and certification requirements is mandatory.
