Job Opportunity: Pediatric IV Therapy Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Pediatric IV Therapy RN
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Pediatric Vascular Access Team experience required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted
- Weekend Work: Required
- Shift Details:
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- 12-hour shifts with day/night rotation
- Shift start times: 7 AM, 11 AM, 7 PM
- Rotations include:
- 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM
- 3:00 PM – 3:30 AM
Required Skills and Experience
- Ultrasound-guided IV placement and vein finder experience required
- Experience on a pediatric vascular access team
- Pediatric Vascular Access Services (VAS) experience required, including Hematology-Oncology, ICU, and care for pediatric to adult populations
- IV placement skills mandatory
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or American Red Cross only (required for all clinical/allied positions)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required if assignment extends beyond 13 weeks for certain units (not required for PCU)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for specific pediatric intensive care and emergency units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Preferred for NICU, must have PALS or NRP
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., Chemotherapy certification for Oncology)
Facility and Work Environment
- Facility Type: Acute Care, Magnet designated, Level I Trauma Center
- Specialty Units: NICU Level III/IV
- Total Staffed Beds: 485
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color Policy: Any solid color for all units except OR (provided) and SPT (any color, not provided)
- Parking: Discounted day passes with shuttle service; free parking for night shifts
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Check: 10-year criminal background check within 6 months prior to start, including aliases and multiple federal/state databases
- Statewide iCORI Clearance (Massachusetts) required within 6 months of start
- Verification of professional certifications within 30 days prior to start
- State License verification through MA.gov within 30 days prior to start
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared to work with no restrictions
- Immunizations and titers: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap, TB test (negative within required timeframe)
- Seasonal Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations or approved medical/religious exemptions required
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for APN)
- Respiratory Safety Clearance required for all travelers
- References: Two professional references from two separate employers within the last three places of employment
- Employment Application: Must include 10-year work history with explanations for gaps over 30 days

- Locals within 50 miles are accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome
- Weekend availability is mandatory
- Rotation includes day and night shifts with extended hours
- Facility uses EPIC for charting and has specific scrub color policies
