Registered Nurse (NICU) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years NICU RN experience (Level III-IV NICU experience required)
- BLS & NRP certifications required
- EPIC experience required
- Prior travel experience required (No first-time travelers accepted)
- No local candidates within 75 miles
- Must be able to float to Pediatrics (PEDS) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Patient ratio: 1:3
- Busy, high-volume delivery hospital with neonatal transport team
- 6 weekend shifts per contract
- No on-call required
Orientation
- Orientation held twice a month
Certifications Required
- ACLS (AHA or American Red Cross)
- BLS (AHA or Red Cross)
- PALS (AHA or American Red Cross)
- NRP (AHA)
- EFM (AWOHNN or NCC acceptable)
- ENPC (Pediatric ER)
- CPI or Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certificate (one required)
- NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for certain units
- HIPAA Competency (updated annually)
- Tech Cert Verification (as applicable)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Required Health Documents
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician, NP, or PA
- Fit testing (N95) within 1 year of start
- Full TDAP vaccine within past 10 years (declinations allowed except for Pediatrics, PICU, Pediatric ER, Mom & Baby, Labor & Delivery units)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 3 months of start
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (declinations allowed with signed form)
- Varicella
- Drug testing (12 panel) within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season Oct 1 – Apr 30)
Background Checks & Compliance
- Background check must be completed within 30 days of assignment start (7-year history including all counties/states lived/worked)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
- State license verification within 30 days of start
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references from employment within last 3 years (1 must be supervisory)
- Employment application with last 7 years of work history; gaps over 30 days must be explained
- Annual skills checklist update
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher
- Competency exam specific to specialty with passing score of 80% or higher
Work Environment
- High volume, busy delivery hospital
- Neonatal transport team available
- Floating to PEDS/PICU required
- 1:3 patient ratio
- 6 weekend shifts per contract
- No call required
This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with prior travel experience looking for a challenging role in a high-acuity neonatal setting.
