Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN) - Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: MS/Tele RN (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry)
- Patient Population: Cardiac Unit
- Shift Ratios:
- Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
- Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
- Support Staff:
- PCTs perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs
- In-house phlebotomy team handles peripheral lab draws
- Nursing Responsibilities: PICC lines and central line care/management
- Float Requirement: Must float within scope to like units as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Block Scheduling: Attempted but not guaranteed
- Locals Accepted: No (within 75 miles)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 1 week RTO allowed in contract
Experience & Certifications
- Required Years of Experience: 1 year in specialty
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required by unit
- PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
- Preferred: Epic charting experience
Special Requirements / Skills
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Peripheral line care/management
- Oxygen delivery devices: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions
Uniform / Appearance
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
- Education verification from primary source required
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- Facility-specific documents and attestations to be completed
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
- References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates
- Employment application and work history verification required
- Skills checklist required annually
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
- Color blind testing required once
- Competency exam as required by specialty
Health & Immunization Requirements
Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing contract:
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (Halyard duckbill 1870+1860 Regular or 1860 Small)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually in lieu of TB test
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, heroin, opiates)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not required annually)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
State-Specific Requirements (New York)
- NYS Nurse Aide Registry (for LTC, ElderOne, Home Care, Hospice Care) within 3 months of start
- NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results for certain units (Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, LTC)
- Disciplinary Action Search Results for certain units
- Sex Offender Registry Search within 30 days of start
- NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months of start, run monthly
This position offers an opportunity to work in a cardiac-focused MS/Telemetry unit with strong support staff and a focus on dysrhythmia management and rapid response. Ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience in the specialty, who are comfortable floating and working every other weekend. First-time travelers are welcome.
