Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Must have a New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
  • Candidates must live more than 75 miles from the facility (no locals accepted)
  • Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:7 on Medical-Surgical unit
  • Unit has 26 beds specializing in post PCI, pacemakers, AICDs, post MI, and cardiac pharmacological interventions
  • Facility type: Tertiary Care Hospital with 528 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Epic (proficiency required)
  • Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in specialty (MedSurg/Cardiac care)
  • BLS certification required
  • Skills in:
    • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response/code teams)
    • IV therapy and phlebotomy (peripheral line care/management)
    • Respiratory care (nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management)
    • Isolation precautions

Certifications Required

  • BLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted)
  • ACLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted, as required by unit)
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)
  • State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start (including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees accepted)
  • Work history verification (at least 2 past employments verified)
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates

Health & Immunization Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing contract:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific acceptable masks listed)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire annually)
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not required annually)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Candidates must be proficient in Epic electronic health record system
  • Locals are not accepted; must be outside a 75-mile radius
  • Patient care involves cardiac and medical-surgical nursing with a focus on cardiac monitoring and emergency response

This opportunity is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of MedSurg or cardiac nursing experience, who holds a current New York RN license and is comfortable working in a tertiary care hospital setting with Epic charting.
