Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN) - Rochester, New York

Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN)

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac and stroke patients
  • Unit Ratios:
    • Day/Eve: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
    • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • Float Requirements: Must float within scope to MS, ICU, and ED units
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Block Schedule: Attempted but not guaranteed
  • Locals Accepted: No locals within 75 miles
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • On-call: Not required

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Years of Experience: 1 year
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required by unit
    • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM as required by unit
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except birthing units & OR)
  • Preferred: Epic charting experience

Job Responsibilities & Special Requirements

  • Work with PCTs who perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs
  • Nursing responsible for PICC lines and central lines; phlebotomy team handles peripheral lab draws
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • Oxygen delivery methods: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Use of hoyer lifts

Uniform & Charting

  • Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
  • Charting system: Epic

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and run monthly
  • Education verification from primary source required (no hard copy degrees)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
  • References: 2 references within 3 years (Aya only)
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • Skills checklist required annually
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Color blind testing required once
  • Competency exams as required by specialty/profession
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, with acceptable mask types specified
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (including declination if applicable)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes multiple substances)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry required within 3 months for certain care settings (LTC, Home Care, Hospice)
  • Fingerprinting and disciplinary action search may be required for Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, and LTC units
  • Sex Offender Registry search required within 30 days of start
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check required within 3 months and run monthly

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 1 year of experience in MS/Tele nursing, comfortable floating to ICU and ED units, and able to meet the specified certification and health requirements. Prior travel experience is not required.
