Job Details

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse
• Patient Ratios:

  • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
  • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
• Support Staff: PCTs perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs
• Nursing Responsibilities: PICC lines and central line care (phlebotomy done by in-house team)
• Float Requirements: Yes, float within scope to other MS units only
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Block Scheduling: Attempted but not guaranteed
• Locals Accepted: No (within 75 miles)
• Pending License: Not accepted
• Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 1 week RTO allowed in contract

Experience & Certifications

• Required Years of Experience: 1 year in specialty
• First-Time Travelers: Accepted
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
• Preferred: Epic charting experience

• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Use of Rapid Response Teams
• Peripheral line care/management
• Oxygen delivery devices: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
• Non-invasive airway management
• Isolation precautions

Patient Diagnoses Commonly Seen

• Spinal stenosis
• Peripheral vascular disease (PVD)
• Diabetic ulcers
• Lung carcinoma
• Pleural effusions

Uniform & Charting

• Scrub colors: Any combination of navy and white
• Charting system: Epic

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check (including felony, SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification) within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and run monthly
• Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable
• Education verification from primary source required
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual TB questionnaire if applicable
• Immunizations or titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
• Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year, not required annually
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
• References: 2 within 3 years (for Aya candidates)

• State-specific requirements for New York including nurse aide registry, criminal background fingerprinting (for certain units), disciplinary action search, sex offender registry, and Medicaid exclusion list

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in medical-surgical or telemetry nursing, comfortable with moderate patient ratios, and able to float within similar units. The role requires strong clinical skills in dysrhythmia management and oxygen therapy, with a preference for candidates experienced in Epic charting. First-time travelers are welcome, and prior travel experience is not mandatory.
