Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lexington, Kentucky


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Unit: PCU/Telemetry
  • Contract Length: 14 weeks

  • Patient Load: Must be comfortable taking care of 5 patients
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years RN experience in PCU/Telemetry
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not specified (assumed not required)
  • Local Travelers: Not accepted within 100 miles

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
  • Strong IV and phlebotomy skills required

Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - for Labor & Delivery
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) - mandatory for PCU/Stepdown and other ICU units
  • Certification for First Assist RNs (if applicable)

Licensure & Verification

  • State RN License verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP) within 30 days of start
  • Employment verification for last 7 years
  • Two professional references verified within 6 months of start (Manager or Supervisor preferred)
  • Employment application must explain any gaps longer than 30 days

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Criminal background checks (county, national, sex offender, FACIS III) within 1 year and updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Education verification or signed official transcript required
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) mandatory with strict retake policy
  • Skills checklists updated annually and valid throughout contract

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, or PA
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (N95 or equivalent)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or approved exemption
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, renewed annually
  • TB questionnaire annually if history of positive TB
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines; booster if equivocal/negative; exemptions accepted with annual updates
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, completed series, or declination updated annually
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; booster if equivocal/negative; exemptions accepted with annual updates
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific drug panels required)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required year-round with exemptions accepted and mask requirement during flu season
  • COVID vaccination series or medical/religious exemption required; booster preferred but not mandatory

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%) within 1 year of start
  • Color Blind Testing Online (passing score 80%) within 1 year of start
  • Unit Specific Competency Exams (may require multiple) within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (if applicable)
  • RN Math Ability Competency Exam (basic or advanced) annually with minimum 80% passing score

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must renew all expiring documents prior to clearance for assignment start
  • Facility does not accept local travelers within 100 miles
  • Pass/Fail EKG exam is critical with only two attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation
  • Must be comfortable managing a patient load of 5 in PCU/Telemetry setting

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong telemetry skills and required certifications, ready for a 14-week travel contract in Lexington, KY.
