Experience Requirements

  • Years of Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year (1Y/1st timer accepted)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) – If applicable
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – AWHONN or NCC-EFM certification if required by unit
  • IV Certification (for LVN/LPN/Other as applicable)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – If required
  • NIH Stroke Certification – Required every 2 years if applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – If required

Licensure

  • State License: Valid Oregon RN license required
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Other License Verifications: As applicable

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification required for all candidates
  • Drug screen: 10-panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TDAP (within 10 years or declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer or declination
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer or declination
    • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Fit mask testing required for travel starts (updated annually)
  • Respirator safety clearance required for travel starts (annual)

Competency and Training Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blind testing if required by unit
  • Specialty competency exams (e.g., EFM training for Labor & Delivery RNs)
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
  • WorkRamp training modules required prior to start, including:
    • Oregon Core Modules for RNs/LPNs
    • Specialty-specific modules for ER, ICU, L&D, OR, etc.
    • Annual regulatory requirements modules
  • Epic training modules required (completion and transcript submission)

Additional Notes

  • Float policy acknowledgment required; may float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years required
  • Some state-specific background checks and attestations may apply
