Job Opportunity: RN - PCU (Travel)

Location: Brevard, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit: Acute Care Unit (PCU)
• Number of Beds: 30
• Staffing: 40+ staff members
• Shift Staffing:

  • Day Shift: 1 Charge/CNC, 4-5 RNs/LPNs, 2-3 NAs
  • Night Shift: 1 Charge/CNC, 4-5 RNs/LPNs, 2-3 NAs
• Patient Ratios:

  • Stepdown/ICU: 2-4 patients per nurse
  • Med-Surg: 5-6 patients per nurse
  • 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCT) on floor as appropriate
• Equipment Used: IV pumps, SCDs, Nova Stat glucometer, wound vac, Baxter feeding pump, lift equipment, Pyxis (nurses only)
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Registered Nurse (RN) License
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - required for all RNs and PCT/NAs
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - must be completed prior to end of orientation
• NIH Certification

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year med/surg experience preferred
• ICU/Stepdown experience preferred but not required

Typical Procedures Performed

• IV starts
• Central Venous Lines (CVL)
• Arterial lines
• Foley catheter care
• EKG monitoring
• Wound care

Work Environment & Culture

• Fast-paced, ever-changing environment
• Team-Based Care model: daily interdisciplinary meetings involving MDs, nurses, case management, pharmacists, PT/OT to discuss patient care and discharge planning
• Floating area includes Transitional Care Unit (TCU)
• Weekend rotation: 3 Mondays and Fridays per 6-week schedule
• Holidays scheduled per staffing matrix

Dress Code

• Nurses: Navy blue scrubs
• Nursing Assistants: Galaxy/royal blue scrubs

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
• The unit cares for a range of acuity levels from med/surg to ICU.
• Strong communication and adaptability skills are important for success in this role.
