Description

Job Opportunity: RN - Emergency Department

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit and Facility Overview

  • Emergency Department in a Level 2 trauma center and comprehensive stroke center
  • High volume ED with over 100,000 visits annually
  • 101 beds in the unit
  • Patient ratios typically 4:1, up to 7:1 on behavioral holds
  • Unit staffing includes techs (cardiac monitoring, triage), unit clerks (days and nights)
  • Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
  • Documentation system: Cerner
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
  • Floating: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
  • Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, continuous patient updates

Required Qualifications

  • Licenses: Registered Nurse License
  • Certifications (must have before start):
    • ACLS
    • BLS
    • PALS
    • TNCC
    • CPI
    • NIHSS
    • ENPC (within 90 days of hire)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years as a nurse in a Level 2 trauma center or similar high-volume ED
    • At least 1 year of experience specifically in an Emergency Room setting
  • Preferred: Previous experience with HCA Healthcare system
  • Skills:
    • Teamwork mentality
    • Ability to coach and provide real-time feedback
    • Flexibility to work in all areas of the ED

Work Environment and Culture

  • Known for strong teamwork and welcoming staff personalities
  • Serves a diverse, multicultural community with over 120 languages spoken in the area
  • Dress code: Navy scrubs required
  • Attendance policy provided on day 1
