Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Bel Air, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: March 9, 2026
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, rotating days and nights (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) on a three-week cycle; manager may consider straight nights
Employment Type: Travel/Contract


Job Description

  • Position in Labor & Delivery (Family Birthplace) unit
  • Night shifts primarily, with rotating day/night schedule
  • Patient care includes antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, antenatal testing, triage, induction, high-risk pregnancies, pre-eclampsia, and C-sections
  • Unit includes LDRP rooms, Special Care Nursery (Level II NICU), triage beds, antenatal testing bays, ORs, PACU bays, and overflow beds for postpartum and neonatal care
  • Patient-to-nurse ratios vary by stage of care (e.g., active labor 1:1, triage 1:4)
  • Floating within specialty and sister units may be required
  • Weekends: every other weekend required
  • Holidays: required as scheduled
  • On-call: not required

Required Qualifications

  • License: Maryland RN license
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Labor and Delivery
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
    • STABLE, FHM, AWHONN (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced) preferred
  • Prior travel experience not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and various federal/state screenings
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel) within 30-45 days of start
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) vaccination required for L&D units
    • TB testing (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) with annual updates
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination proof
    • Hepatitis B immunity or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (for 2025-26 season)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start
  • Two professional references required, including at least one supervisor or charge nurse
  • Employment history verification for the past 5 years
  • Completion of facility-specific documents and policies prior to start, including confidentiality agreements, dress code review, and unit-specific job description
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable

Work Environment

  • LDRP unit with specialized neonatal care
  • Rotating shifts with a mix of day and night hours
  • Patient acuity ranges from triage to active labor and postpartum care
  • Floating may be required within related units
