Unit Details

• Unit: Cardiovascular Surgery PreOp (CV PreOp)
• Number of Beds: 4
• Patient Ratios: 1:1
• Staffing: RNs supported by CNC, secretary, manager, shared with CVOR
• Equipment: GE Carescape Monitoring, Fuji ultrasound
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
• On Call: Stay late 1-2 times per week
• Floating: Within scope of practice and experience

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
• Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in cardiovascular surgery or critical care specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required, but NO FIRST TIME TRAVELERS allowed (prior travel experience required)

Skills and Competencies

• Critical care experience is a must; PreOp experience is a plus
• Proficient in BCMA and excellent documentation skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Strong critical thinking and communication skills with interdisciplinary teams
• Advanced skills including:

  • Large-bore IV starts
  • Chin to toe hair removal
  • Medication administration
  • Skin assessment
  • Assisting with arterial line, central line, and epidural placement
  • Transporting patients to OR and assisting with induction/intubation, positioning, and skin prep
