Patient Population

• Adults

Schedule & Staffing

• Shift Lengths: 8, 10, or 12 hours (Day shifts)

• Staffing Ratio: 1 RN : 4–5 patients

• Call Required: Yes

• Floating Required: Yes

• Weekend Coverage: Every other or every third weekend

• Scheduling Type: Block / Self (unit dependent)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of Infusion or Oncology RN experience REQUIRED

• Patient ratio experience: 1:4 required

• First-time travelers: Accepted

Required Certifications

• BLS

• Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC)

• Active RN license (state requirements apply)

Preferred Certifications

• ACLS

• OCN

• CPON / CPHON

• APHON

• NIHSS

• PALS

Required Clinical Skills & Competencies

• Chemotherapy administration (IV push, continuous infusion, oral)

• Recognition and management of chemotherapy side effects

• Cytotoxic spill management and safe disposal

• Monitoring labs and communicating abnormal values

• Port access and management

• Central line and PICC care

• Infusion pump management

• Blood and blood product administration

• IV hydration and medication infusions

• Antineoplastics

• Antibiotics

• Antiemetics

• Corticosteroids

• Hormonal therapy

• Neupogen

Oncologic Emergencies (Required)

• Anaphylaxis

• Extravasation injury

• Sepsis

• Hemorrhage

• Tumor lysis syndrome

• Spinal cord compression

Symptom & Supportive Care

• Pain management (IV push narcotics, PCA, transdermal patches)

• Neutropenic precautions

• Isolation precautions

• Patient and family education

• Hospice and advanced directives support

Work Environment & Support

• Internal pharmacy on site

• Physician present in clinic during treatments

• Interdisciplinary support including:

  • Pharmacy

  • Phlebotomy

  • Radiology

  • Rapid Response Teams

  • Social Services

  • Transportation

Orientation & Onboarding

• Orientation: 40 hours

Key Submission Notes

• Outpatient oncology infusion experience strongly required

• Chemotherapy certification is mandatory

• Must be comfortable managing high-volume infusion schedules
