Description
Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – Acute Care
Location: Saint Cloud, MN
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 – 16:30), every 4th weekend
Job Responsibilities:
-
Provide occupational therapy services in an acute care hospital setting under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist.
-
Treat a diverse adult and geriatric patient population across medical, surgical, orthopedic, neurological, cardiac, oncology, and critical care units.

Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), functional mobility, transfers, and upper-extremity rehabilitation.

Participate in discharge planning and patient/family education focused on safety, injury prevention, and functional independence.

Document treatments, progress, and discharges accurately in the electronic medical record.

Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to support patient-centered outcomes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
-
Minimum 1 year of experience as a COTA.

Prior acute care hospital experience (required).
-
Active Minnesota state COTA license.
-
BLS certification.
-
Ability to manage a fast-paced acute care caseload (approximately 12 visits per day).
Preferred Skills and Experience:
-
Experience in adult rehabilitation, skilled nursing, or rehabilitation facility settings.
-
Exposure to complex diagnoses including stroke, brain injury, amputations, dementia, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, cardiac conditions, and post-surgical recovery.

Experience with orthopedic conditions such as total joint replacements and fractures.

Familiarity with prosthetics, orthotics, and functional splinting.

Knowledge of standardized assessments, fall-risk assessment, infection prevention, and patient safety practices.

Experience using Epic or similar electronic charting systems.
