Description

Title: Laboratory – Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS)
Location: Mission Viejo, CA
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night Shift, 5x8-Hour (23:00–07:30)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive clinical laboratory testing across blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis

  • Execute complex blood bank procedures including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, AHG crossmatch, electronic crossmatch, DAT, and transfusion reaction workups

  • Support trauma services with high-volume and massive transfusion protocols

  • Operate and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and automation systems (e.g., Sysmex, WAM, CellaVision, ACL TOP, Iris Cell)

  • Conduct hematology and coagulation testing including manual differentials, platelet counts, reticulocyte counts, sickle cell prep, and TEGs

  • Perform urinalysis testing including analyzer-based, macroscopic, microscopic, and crystal identification

  • Ensure accurate specimen handling, quality control, and adherence to laboratory safety and regulatory standards

  • Document all testing, quality checks, and results accurately in the Epic charting system

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to support timely patient care

  • Float within the hospital and affiliated facilities as required to meet operational needs

  • Participate in on-call coverage and respond to urgent laboratory needs during night shifts

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience as a Clinical Lab Scientist

  • Strong blood bank experience required; trauma hospital experience preferred

  • Experience in hospital clinical laboratory settings (community hospital preferred)

  • Proficiency with automated and manual laboratory testing methods

  • Ability to work independently on night shifts in a high-acuity environment

  • Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills

  • Previous travel experience required

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) – required

  • California State Clinical Lab Scientist License – required, in hand (no temporary licenses)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – required

  • ASCP Certification – preferred
