Title: Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) – Team Lead
Location: Silver City, NM
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day Shift – 5x8-Hour (07:00 – 15:00)

Job Responsibilities

• Receive, sterilize, and distribute all reusable trays, packs, sets, and equipment according to Surgical Services policies and JCAHO standards

• Clean, disinfect, and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization following established protocols

• Inspect instruments and equipment for wear and damage, reporting any items needing repair

• Utilize count sheets to ensure all instruments are complete before autoclaving and communicate missing items as per protocol

• Ensure all equipment and supplies are ready and available for scheduled surgical procedures

• Provide instrument sets to the Operating Room, Emergency Room, OB, Nursery, and other departments as needed

• Operate sterilizers, washers, and autoclaves according to manufacturer instructions and hospital policies, documenting load and machine surveillance

• Assist throughout the department to facilitate completion of the surgical schedule

• Assist with ordering and stocking supplies as needed

• Work collaboratively with OR team members to maintain aseptic technique and safe patient care

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of sterile processing experience (3 years preferred)

• Knowledge of aseptic technique and sterilization processes

• Ability to inspect and maintain surgical instruments and equipment

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage team workflow

• Ability to respond promptly to urgent requests for supplies or equipment

• Effective communication and teamwork skills

Required Certifications & Licensure

• BLS – Basic Life Support (required, active)

• Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT) or equivalent certification (desired/preferred)
