Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (ER)

Location: Potsdam, NY 13676
Shift: Day | 3x12-Hour (12:00 – 00:00)

REQUIRED SKILLS / CERTIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience

• Experience working in a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center

• First-time travelers accepted

• Local candidates not accepted (must reside more than 50 miles from the facility)

Clinical Skills & Competencies:

• General Emergency Department care (Combined Adult & Pediatric)

• Non-Trauma Emergency Department experience

• Interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias

• Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure

• Blood product administration

• Central line care and management

• Phlebotomy and IV initiation

• Continuous IV sedation

• IV vasopressors administration

• Stroke and neurological care, including:

  • CVA

  • Neuro-trauma

  • Spinal cord injury

  • Traumatic brain injury

• Trauma and emergency conditions, including:

  • Orthopedic trauma

  • Abdominal pain

  • Asthma

  • Burns

  • Epiglottitis

  • Head injury

  • Hyperglycemia

  • Gunshot wounds

  • Traumatic amputation

• Identification and reporting of abuse

• Management of infections and respiratory infections

• Mental and behavioral health emergencies

• Seizure management

• Care of ventilated patients

• Urinary tract infections

Required Certifications:

• BLS

• ACLS

• PALS

• NIHSS

• TNCC

PREFERRED SKILLS / CERTIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)

• TCAR

JOB DETAILS

• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends in a 4-week posted schedule)

• Patient Ratio Experience Required: 1:5

• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

• Communication: SBAR

UNIT ORIENTATION

• 24 hours of unit orientation
