Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

📍 Location: Potsdam, New York
📅 Contract Type: Travel
🚫 Local Candidates: Must live > 50 miles from facility

Unit Overview

Mixed-acuity unit caring for PCU, MS Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical patients. Ratios adjusted based on acuity. Candidates must have recent PCU/IMC/Stepdown experience within the last 3 years.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year RN experience

  • PCU/IMC/Stepdown experience required

  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Certifications

  • BLS

  • ACLS

  • NIHSS

Skills Required

  • MS/Telemetry care

  • Dysrhythmia interpretation & management

  • Post-MI care

  • Cardiac & insulin drip titration

  • Heparin protocols

  • IV starts, PICC, ports, central line care

  • Blood product administration

  • Phlebotomy

  • Feeding tubes & bladder irrigation

  • Renal failure management

  • PCA pumps

  • Chest tubes (Pleur-evac/Emerson)

  • CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, oxygen therapy

  • Tracheostomy care

  • ABG interpretation

  • Wound care/Wound Vac

  • CVA, seizures, withdrawal management

  • Ortho trauma, traction, total joints

  • Isolation precautions

Preferred

  • PALS

  • TCAR experience

Shift & Scheduling

  • Ratios:

    • Days/Weekends: 1:3–5

    • Nights: 1:3–6

  • Weekend: Every other

  • Float: Required to sister units (West 2, West 3, Observation)

  • RTO: 7 days max

Patient Population

  • PCU & MS Tele

  • Surgical pre/post-op (ENT, General Surgery, Trauma, Ortho)

  • Medical overflow

  • Rare pediatric patients (travelers assigned only if experienced)

Systems & Equipment

  • Charting: EPIC

  • Medication: Pyxis

  • Communication: SBAR

  • Orientation: 12 hours

  • Scrubs: Any solid color
