Description

Title: Laboratory – Histology Technician / Histotechnologist
Location: Syracuse, NY
Duration: 13 Weeks (Possible Extension)
Shift: Day 5x8-Hour (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform histology laboratory procedures to support diagnostic and research pathology services

  • Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination including fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining

  • Perform microtomy and produce high-quality tissue sections for analysis

  • Conduct routine and special histological staining procedures

  • Perform advanced procedures including immunohistochemical staining and enzyme histochemistry

  • Process and prepare specimens for specialized pathology testing including neuropathology, eye pathology, renal biopsies, nerve biopsies, and muscle biopsies

  • Assist in preparation and processing of surgical pathology specimens

  • Maintain accurate specimen identification, labeling, and tracking throughout the testing process

  • Perform computer data entry for surgical pathology and research specimens

  • Maintain and update specimen records within the laboratory information system

  • Enter and maintain laboratory billing information as required

  • Ensure histology laboratory testing is performed in a timely and accurate manner

  • Maintain quality control standards and ensure proper laboratory procedures are followed

  • Follow all laboratory safety protocols and infection control standards

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory technologists, and healthcare teams to support diagnostic processes

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of histology or clinical laboratory experience

  • Experience performing tissue processing, microtomy, and histological staining procedures

  • Strong knowledge of special stains and immunohistochemistry techniques

  • Experience handling surgical pathology specimens and biopsy samples

  • Ability to maintain accurate specimen documentation and laboratory records

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to distinguish colors for microscopic analysis

  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume laboratory environment

  • Experience in hospital or clinical laboratory settings preferred

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • New York State License or Registration as a Histological Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technologist

  • Limited Permit acceptable if eligible for NYS licensure
