Registered Nurse – CVICU
Facility: University of Maryland Medical Center - Downtown
Location: 22 S Greene St, Baltimore, MD 21201
Start Date: 05/18/2026
Duration: 16 Weeks
Shift: Night (07:00 PM – 07:30 AM)
Schedule: 3x12-Hour Nights (Every Other Weekend)
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes (to ICU and lower acuity units as needed)
Call Requirement: Not Required
Note: 2 years CVICU experience required; strong experience with IABP & Impella required; first-time travelers accepted with strong skillset; high-acuity cardiac ICU
Position Overview:
The CVICU Registered Nurse provides advanced critical care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions in a high-acuity cardiac intensive care unit. The RN manages post-cardiac surgery patients, advanced cardiac support devices, and life-threatening conditions using evidence-based practices.
Job duties:
Provide direct care to critically ill cardiac patients including post-CABG, valve replacement, and heart failure cases
Manage patients on advanced cardiac support devices such as IABP, Impella, and VAD
Perform continuous hemodynamic monitoring using arterial lines and Swan-Ganz catheters
Administer and titrate vasoactive, cardiac, and sedation medications
Care for ventilated patients including airway management and ABG interpretation
Monitor and manage cardiac rhythms and respond to dysrhythmias
Assist with bedside procedures such as central line insertion, chest tubes, and intubation
Manage CRRT and fluid/electrolyte balance in critically ill patients
Provide care for patients with cardiogenic shock, MI, cardiac arrest, and multi-organ failure
Maintain infection control and isolation precautions
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care
Requirements:
Licensure: Active Maryland RN License or Compact License
Experience: Minimum 2 years CVICU experience required
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, CPI, NIHSS; CCRN preferred
Other requirement: Must have strong experience with IABP and Impella; comfortable in high-acuity cardiac ICU

Unit: Cardiac ICU - 2010-11185
Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
Patient Population: Adults, Geriatrics
Patient Diagnoses: Cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, LVAD/heart transplant workups, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hypertensive emergency
Number of Beds: 15
Daily Census: 10
