Schedule: 4x12 Nights (Option of 36 or 48 Hours), Rotating Weekends as Needed

Position Overview:

The Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care for adult and geriatric patients with cardiovascular and progressive care needs. The RN delivers evidence-based, intermediate-level care while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to monitor and treat patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring and specialized cardiovascular care.

Job duties:

Provide comprehensive nursing care for progressive care and cardiovascular patients, perform ongoing patient assessments, monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias, administer medications including heparin protocols, cardiac drips, insulin protocols, and procedural sedation as appropriate, provide care for post-cardiac catheterization, post-cardiac angiogram, post-myocardial infarction, and pre/post cardiac surgery patients, manage peripheral and central IV access, PICC lines, chest tubes, oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, wound care, feeding tubes, and blood product administration, collaborate with rapid response teams and interdisciplinary staff, maintain infection prevention and isolation precautions, educate patients and families, and accurately document patient care using Epic.

Requirements:

Licensure: Active New Mexico RN License or Compact RN License (Pending accepted; must be obtained prior to start)
Experience: Minimum 2 years of PCU/Stepdown experience preferred (1 year considered); Cardiovascular experience required; First-time travelers accepted
Certifications: BLS (Required), ACLS (Required), NIHSS (Required), CPI (Preferred)
Other requirement: Epic EMR experience required. Experience with 1:4 patient ratios, telemetry monitoring, cardiovascular care, dysrhythmia interpretation, post-cardiac catheterization, post-cardiac surgery, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, and willingness to float to like units within scope.

Patient Ratios: 1:4–5
Patient Population: Adults, Geriatrics
Patient Diagnoses: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), STEMI, NSTEMI, and other cardiovascular-related conditions requiring progressive care and telemetry monitoring.
