Position Overview
Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking an experienced Cytotechnologist to join its Laboratory team. This role involves performing gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology testing in a high-volume hospital laboratory while contributing to quality assurance initiatives and supporting accurate patient diagnoses.
Responsibilities
- Screen and evaluate gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens microscopically.
- Process and assess specimens using Thin Prep and related cytology techniques.
- Participate in Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) programs.
- Ensure proper specimen identification, labeling, and handling.
- Assist with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) procedures and Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE), when required.
- Work closely with pathologists, laboratory staff, and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate diagnostic results.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of Cytotechnologist experience.
- Current ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) certification or equivalent.
- Experience in:
- Gynecologic Cytology
- Non-Gynecologic Cytology
- Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)
- Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs
- Specimen identification and labeling
Preferred Qualifications
- Thin Prep Imager Certification.
- ROSE (Rapid On-Site Evaluation) adequacy experience.
- Experience with:
- Ascitic, gastric, esophageal, spinal, respiratory, and urinary cytology specimens
- FNA smear preparation and staining
- Flow Cytometry
- FISH testing
- Special stains and ancillary testing
