Description
Registered Nurse – PICU
Facility: LBH - Sinai Hospital
Location: Baltimore, MD
Start Date: 07/20/2026
Duration: 14 Weeks
Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)
Schedule: 36 Hours/Week, Self Scheduling, 3 Weekend Shifts per Contract
Charting System: Cerner (Required)
Float Required: Yes – will float to Pediatrics and Pediatric ED if needed (and within scope)
Call Requirement: No
Note: 6-bed PICU. First-time travelers accepted. Must be able to manage ventilated pediatric patients and high-acuity pediatric cases.
Position Overview:
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse provides critical care nursing to infants, children, and adolescents with complex medical, surgical, and respiratory conditions. The RN is responsible for continuous monitoring, advanced interventions, and stabilization of critically ill pediatric patients requiring intensive support and life-sustaining therapies.
Job duties:
- Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to pediatric and adolescent patients in the PICU.
- Monitor and manage ventilated patients including ventilator settings, airway care, suctioning, and respiratory support (HFNC, BiPAP, CPAP).
- Administer and titrate IV drips including sedation, vasoactive medications, and emergency medications as ordered.
- Manage arterial lines, central venous lines, and CVP monitoring for hemodynamically unstable patients.
- Care for patients with respiratory failure, sepsis, seizures, DKA, and other critical pediatric conditions.
- Perform ongoing neurological assessments and monitor for changes in patient condition requiring immediate intervention.
- Respond to pediatric emergencies including respiratory distress, code situations, and rapid deterioration.
- Provide care for patients requiring moderate sedation and invasive monitoring.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary teams for coordinated care planning.
- Maintain infection control practices, isolation precautions, and accurate documentation in Cerner.
- Float to pediatric units and pediatric emergency department as needed within scope of practice.
Requirements:
Licensure: Active Maryland RN License or Compact RN License
Experience: Minimum 2 Years PICU Experience Required; First-time travelers accepted
Certifications:
- BLS
- PALS
- Basic EKG (Required per posting)
Other requirement:
- Experience managing ventilated pediatric patients
- Experience with arterial lines and central lines preferred
- Ability to manage moderate sedation and IV drips
- Comfort floating to NICU and Pediatric ED
- Strong critical care pediatric assessment skills
