PACU Holding – MS/Telemetry RN Assignment

Schedule

• Monday–Friday
• 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• No weekends, no holidays, no call

Unit

• PACU Holding / Extended Stay
• Orientation provided in PACU Extended Stay
• Float to Med-Surg as needed

Experience Required

• Minimum 1 year RN experience
• Post-operative experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted

Patient Population

• Fully recovered post-op patients awaiting:
  • Inpatient bed assignment, or
  • Discharge home
• Common surgical cases:
  • Orthopedic
  • Neuro
  • GYN
  • General Surgery
  • Other post-operative patients requiring observation

Patient Ratios

• Days/Evenings: 5:1 (may stretch to 6–7:1)
• Nights: 6–7:1 (may stretch to 8–10:1 if staffing shortages occur)

Support Staff

• PCT assigned to assist during shift

EMR

• Epic (required)

Required Certifications

• BLS

Required Clinical Skills

• Medical-Surgical & Telemetry nursing
• Cardiac telemetry monitoring
• Dysrhythmia recognition and management
• Rapid Response/Code Team participation
• Peripheral IV insertion and management
• Heparin protocols
• Total joint replacement care
• Oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, oxygen administration/tanks)
• Non-invasive airway management
• Isolation precautions/PPE
• Phlebotomy

Other Requirements

• Float to Med-Surg PRN
• Hospital-provided scrubs
• Local candidates not accepted (must reside more than 75 miles from the facility)
