Position Overview:

The Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse provides comprehensive critical care to adult and geriatric patients with complex medical and surgical conditions. The RN is responsible for delivering evidence-based, high-acuity nursing care while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to promote optimal patient outcomes in a fast-paced ICU environment.

Job duties:

Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to patients with complex medical and surgical conditions, perform ongoing patient assessments, monitor hemodynamic status, manage ventilated patients, administer and titrate vasoactive medications, cardiac drips, insulin infusions, and continuous IV sedation, manage arterial lines, central lines, IV access, and blood product administration, assist with chest tube care, bedside tracheostomy procedures, and central line insertions, monitor cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias, provide stroke and post-cardiac arrest care, manage septic shock, DKA, hemorrhagic shock, overdose, renal failure, and multisystem organ dysfunction patients, collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, maintain infection prevention practices, provide patient and family education, and accurately document patient care.

Requirements:

Licensure: Active Maryland RN License or Compact RN License
Experience: Minimum 2 years of staff ICU RN experience required;
Community Hospital experience preferred;
Charge Nurse experience preferred
Certifications: BLS (Required), ACLS (Required), NIHSS (Required), Prophecy Relias Advanced EKG (Required), 4-hour Annual Stroke CEUs (Required)
Other requirement: Experience with 1:2 ICU patient ratios. Proficiency in ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, arterial and central line management, blood product administration, chest tube care, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, procedural sedation, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, stroke management, renal failure, CRRT (preferred), infection prevention, isolation precautions, phlebotomy, and care of critically ill adult patients.

Patient Diagnoses: Medical and surgical ICU patients including septic shock, post-cardiac arrest, DKA/HHNK, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, post-operative surgical patients, acute stroke (TPA), hemorrhagic shock, renal failure, and multisystem organ dysfunction.
