REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 2 years of Level III NICU experience required
• 3 years of NICU experience preferred/required per unit description
• Must have experience caring for micro-preemies
• Must be proficient with:
  • Mechanical ventilators
  • High-frequency oscillators
  • Pressors
  • Non-invasive CPAP
  • Nitric oxide therapy
• STABLE certification required
• NRP required
• BLS required
• Current RN license required
• Must live at least 100 miles from the facility

NICU PATIENT POPULATION

The NICU cares for neonates ranging from approximately 23 weeks gestation to 4 months. Patients are primarily admitted from Labor & Delivery and may have conditions including:

• Extreme prematurity
• Respiratory distress syndrome
• Sepsis
• Hypoglycemia
• Congenital anomalies
• Seizures
• Meconium aspiration syndrome

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Care for high-acuity premature and critically ill neonates
• Manage mechanical ventilation, high-frequency oscillation and CPAP
• Administer and monitor pressors and nitric oxide therapy
• Respond to neonatal emergencies
• Attend C-sections and high-risk deliveries
• Assist with intubations and bedside procedures
• Peripheral IV insertion and septic workups
• Percutaneous catheter insertions
• Parenteral therapy
• Blood and blood product administration
• Medication administration and vital-sign monitoring
• Bronchopulmonary hygiene
• Parent education and support
