Department: Med/Surg ICU – Coney Island
Start Date: September 14, 2026
Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts
Shift Time: 7:30 AM – 8:00 PM
Position Overview
South Brooklyn Health is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ideal candidate will have strong critical care experience along with hands-on expertise in conscious sedation, IV insertion, and phlebotomy.
The ICU RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients, monitor patient conditions, administer medications and treatments, and collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and continuously monitor patient condition.
- Recognize changes in patient status and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate healthcare team members.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and other treatments as ordered.
- Perform IV insertion and maintain IV access.
- Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens as required.
- Provide and monitor patients receiving conscious sedation.
- Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and other critical parameters.
- Respond appropriately to changes in patient condition and emergency situations.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment, procedures, and plan of care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
- Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards.
- Assist with procedures and provide appropriate pre- and post-procedure care.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients and families.
Required Qualifications
- Active New York State RN License.
- Minimum 2 years of Critical Care/ICU experience.
- Minimum 2 years of Conscious Sedation experience.
- Minimum 2 years of IV Insertion experience.
- Minimum 2 years of Phlebotomy experience.
- Current AHA BLS & ACLS certification.
