Description
Location: Baltimore, MD 21209
Start Date: 11/05/2026
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Rotating Days/Nights (07:00–19:30 / 19:00–07:00)
Schedule: 3x12 hours; 36 hours/week; every other weekend and holidays as scheduled.
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Charting System: Meditech
Float Required: Yes — within the specialty and other departments as needed
Call Requirement: No
Note: Pediatric Stepdown is a mixed rehabilitation and acute-care unit; PCU experience is not required. Minimum 2 years of pediatric rehabilitation or pediatric acute-care experience with required clinical skills is mandatory. Trach and ventilator management experience required. First-time travelers accepted. Maryland or Compact RN license required. BLS required. CPI preferred. Flu vaccination required with no exemptions; COVID-19 vaccination not required.
Position Overview
The RN – Pediatric Stepdown will provide nursing care to pediatric and adolescent patients in a mixed rehabilitation and acute-care setting. The nurse will care for patients with complex medical, neurological, respiratory, and post-surgical needs, including tracheostomy and ventilator management. The role involves supporting recovery and rehabilitation while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, individualized care.
Requirements
License: Active Maryland or Compact RN license at the time of submission.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of pediatric rehabilitation or pediatric acute-care experience in a hospital setting. Pediatric experience is acceptable with the required skills; PCU experience is not required. Trach and ventilator management experience required. First-time travelers accepted.
Certifications: BLS required; CPI preferred.
Other requirement: Must be comfortable floating within the specialty and to other departments as needed. AHA certification requirements apply where applicable. Must be available for rotating day/night shifts, every other weekend, and holidays as scheduled.

Patient Population: Pediatrics and adolescents
Patient Diagnoses: Traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, gunshot wounds, motor vehicle accident injuries, wounds, burns, feeding disorders, failure to thrive, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, post-orthopedic surgical conditions requiring intensive PT/OT/ST, and respiratory or cardiac conditions requiring tracheostomy and ventilator management.
