Special Education Teacher
Employment Type: Full-Time | 2026-2027 School Year
Reports To: Building Principal / Director of Special Education
Position Summary:
We are seeking a certified Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs. This role is responsible for developing and implementing individualized instruction, managing IEP compliance, and collaborating with staff, families, and support teams to help every student access the curriculum and meet their goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in line with federal, state, and local regulations.
Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities in inclusion, resource, or self-contained settings.
Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet a range of academic and behavioral needs.
Assess student progress regularly and maintain accurate, timely documentation.
Lead and participate in IEP meetings, eligibility determinations, and re-evaluations.
Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators.
Implement positive behavior supports and individualized behavior intervention plans as needed.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
Maintain compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and applicable district requirements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
Valid state teaching certification in Special Education, or eligibility to obtain.
Working knowledge of IEP development, IDEA, and special education compliance.
Strong classroom management and behavior support skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred: Master's degree, experience with specific populations or settings, and familiarity with assistive technology and data-driven instruction.
Work Requirements:
Ability to work in a school environment and respond to the physical and behavioral needs of students, which may include lifting, bending, or assisting with mobility depending on assignment.
