Bassett Medical Center Unit: Cardiac Catheterization Lab Summary The Cath Lab at Bassett Medical Center is a dynamic, high-volume department performing a wide range of cardiovascular and interventional procedures. With three dedicated labs and a hybrid OR, the team supports diagnostic and interventional caths, TAVR, EP studies, device implants, vascular, and IR cases. RNs rotate between circulating and monitoring roles, working closely with techs and physicians in a collaborative, team-based environment. This unit oƯers consistent exposure to advanced procedures, structured scheduling, and shared call responsibilities. General Information  Number of Labs/Rooms: o 3 Cath Labs (cath, structural heart, vascular, IR, EP cases) o 1 Hybrid OR (EP and some vascular cases, depending on week/OR schedule)  Typical Patient Volume: o 10–15 cases per day  Most Frequent Procedures: o Daily cath lab designated for diagnostic caths and PCI (most frequent) o TAVRs: Every Monday o LAAO: Every Wednesday o EP: Full day Monday & Thursday, half day Wednesday o Vascular and IR procedures split across the other labs throughout the week StaƯing & Ratios  Call Requirements: o 1 night per week (1730–0700) o 1 weekend every 4th–5th weekend (Friday 1730–Monday 0700) o Call team = 2 RNs + 1 Tech  RN-to-Patient/Case Ratio: o 2–3 RNs per room o 1–2 Techs per room  StaƯing per Case: o 2–3 Nurses, 1–2 Techs, plus Physician o StaƯ are assigned to a specific room daily and responsible for all scheduled cases in that room Nursing Role Expectations  Roles: Circulate and monitor (rotated each case)  Scrubbing: Not required for RNs
