Description

The Registered Nurse – NICU cares for newborn babies who are delivered pre-term or at-term newborns who experience complications at the time of birth. The Registered Nurse – NICU provides intensive around-the-clock care, including both medical needs and basic daily care activities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care of the neonatal patient and coordinates with healthcare team members
  • Cares for infants transitioning to extrauterine life
  • Provides age and culturally appropriate care to patient
  • Provides nutritional assessment & specialized feedings
  • Changes dressings, inserts catheters, starts IVs
  • Provides arterial & intravenous therapy
  • Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, such as incubators and ventilators
  • Assists NICU Physician during examination, treatment and procedures, which can include lifesaving measures
  • Participates in discharge planning
  • Assesses signs and symptoms indicating changes in patient’s condition, documents changes and informs physician/charge nurse
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from health care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
  • Identifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient care requirements
  • Performs interventions according to identified priorities, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard
  • Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient/family environment
  • Initiates and evaluates family education
  • Documents and revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions
  • Participates in activities to facilitate good interpersonal communications with facility • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current Registered Nurse license for the state in which the nurse practices
  • One year NICU experience required
  • NRP card per contract requirement
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice 
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable 
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation) 
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements 
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site 
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements  
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required  
  • Computer proficiency required 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
