Position: Registered Nurse - PCU

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team in the Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit. This role offers an excellent opportunity for nurses who are willing to learn and grow in their nursing practice.

Unit Overview

The 18 East and West Medical Oncology PCU is a 36-bed unit with a focus on high-acuity care for oncology patients. The unit includes over 24 beds dedicated to progressive care. Patients may include adolescents, adults, and rarely pediatrics.

Shift Information

• Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
• Patient Ratios: 1:3 for PCU, 1:4-5 for MedSurg Telemetry
• Scheduling Type: Self-scheduling with variable weekend shifts based on unit needs

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required; prior ICU and PCU experience is beneficial
• Must have high acuity PCU patient experience within the past three years

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Skills Preferred

• IV therapy and phlebotomy
• Accessing and managing ports
• Blood product administration
• Central and peripheral line care/management
• PICC line management
• Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
• Non-invasive airway management
• Chest tube management
• Tracheostomy care/management
• Wound care, including Wound Vac

Work Environment

The position will involve floating to other PCU or MedSurg Oncology units as needed. The emphasis is on infection prevention protocols and prevention of patient falls.

Interdisciplinary Support

You will work alongside various support services including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Social Services, and Pharmacy.

Orientation and Training

• First week: Monday to Friday dayshift orientation
• Second week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a designated preceptor
